What Debt collectors are not allowed to do?

According to Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, there are certain rules and regulation for debt collectors to obey. Debt collectors are not allowed to practice anything beyond that which is against the law.

When it comes to debt collection, people often seem to be living in fear of debt of violation. In fact, no debt collector is allowed to do anything like that which is illegal.

But if you are one of those frightened by a debt collector, here are a few details about your rights to protest, if you find anything beyond the law is taking place!

The basic provision of the law include –
  • You can sue debt collectors individually for any kind of violations.
  • If a debt collector is using abusive language or threatening you through excessive phone calls, you have the right to protest against such activity.
  • You can even prohibit discussion at inconvenient times, such as before 8 a.m. and after 9 p.m.

So these are your fundamental rights against debt collection violation, which debt collectors are strictly prohibited doing so!
